Today is Nahara's birthday! She has been thinking about ways to celebrate while keeping nature in mind. Here are a few ideas. Do you have more?
Skip presents and embody the phrase "your presence is my present"
OR request that presents be thrifted, hand-made, experiential, or a donation to a nature saving organization!
Wrap those presents in newspaper or magazines that you are done reading instead of store bought wrapping paper. Or, if you don't have any, why not use a cloth such as a dish towel? You can always ask for it back if you don't want to part with it.
When having a party, use reusable plates and utensils. Or, if that's too hard use compostable materials.
When serving beverages, you can use a big dispensing jug.
Stay away from plastic in the goodie bags. You can make everyone a piece of art or collect some items from nature for them. Or, why not send them home with a baked good or some other fun snack?
Keep your party in a location close to the majority of your guests so that they don't have to use too many fossil fuels to get there. If you live in a walkable/bikeable town, you can even tell people that it would mean a lot to use if they use people-power to get there.
Make nature your source of fun! Do free play, nature-saving pretend games, a scavenger hunt, nature-inspired art work!
