Today is Nahara's birthday! She has been thinking about ways to celebrate while keeping nature in mind. Here are a few ideas. Do you have more?

  1. Skip presents and embody the phrase "your presence is my present"

  2. OR request that presents be thrifted, hand-made, experiential, or a donation to a nature saving organization!

  3. Wrap those presents in newspaper or magazines that you are done reading instead of store bought wrapping paper. Or, if you don't have any, why not use a cloth such as a dish towel? You can always ask for it back if you don't want to part with it.

  4. When having a party, use reusable plates and utensils. Or, if that's too hard use compostable materials.

  5. When serving beverages, you can use a big dispensing jug.

  6. Stay away from plastic in the goodie bags. You can make everyone a piece of art or collect some items from nature for them. Or, why not send them home with a baked good or some other fun snack?

  7. Keep your party in a location close to the majority of your guests so that they don't have to use too many fossil fuels to get there. If you live in a walkable/bikeable town, you can even tell people that it would mean a lot to use if they use people-power to get there.

  8. Make nature your source of fun! Do free play, nature-saving pretend games, a scavenger hunt, nature-inspired art work!
